November Topic

Dear poets,

this month’s topic is very simple: Photograph Poem – please poetically describe a photograph and feel free to add the photo as well. Enjoy writing and we are looking forward to reading your poems! 🙂

Chestnut Memories

Burst of colours, falling leaves and chestnuts

Bringing pensive mood and memories long forgotten

An old black and white photograph of an elderly lady

Holding an infant in her arms, the only memory of grandma

Seeing a chestnut brings this photograph to my mind

More memories come – running around and wildly

Kicking leaves into the air and looking for chestnuts

Gathering full bags of them to take home to play with

Later at home warmed by hot tea and enjoying sweets

Making a zoo full of chestnut animals – giraffe, lion, zebra…

On and on goes the list, even new species coming to life

Happily playing with them, creativity unleashed

Lost in the world childlike imagination where

Everything is possible even the most crazy dreams

A Letter to 18-year-old-me

I know you won’t like what you’re about to hear

Since you think you know best – let’s face it

You just don’t, but you’ll find that out yourself

Or you can just trust me… up to you

First of all – have you ever thought about becoming

a teacher? Sounds stupid? Think about it.

When in love, you just don’t think, at all… REALLY!

So you might just get somebody you trust to tell you

Cold showers might help as well

The one you think is the right one is NOT, just saying

So that you aren’t surprised when you find out

And it might take longer than you imagine, or not

I know you’ve heard this yet doing just ONE thing well

Is better than ten things wrong, maybe you need to discover that yourself

You’ve got a great bunch of people around you

There’s no need to worry about them letting you down

Try to trust them more because they honestly love the way you are

Take it easy and poke some fun at yourself

Life is good and you’ve got a great future ahead of you

Edinburgh

Charming both clothed in mist and clouds

And naked in the direct sun

Revealing the greyish buildings,

All ancient monuments of national pride

Remembering Scottish heroes

Greyish city with islands of green parks

Tasting a wee bit of Highlands hiking Arthur’s Seat

Watching the sunset from Calton Hill

Taking in the city, never having enough

Wandering along Princess Street or the Royal Mile

Soaking in the artistic atmosphere

While visiting museums and galleries

Or all the unique cafés always sitting in

Discovering a different culture just to

Find out it’s not that different after all

Yet the best of all is meeting new friends

“Haste ye back!”, told me one of them

And haste back, aye, I will – See you soon!

I am…

I am passionate and friendly

I wonder about the simplexity of life

I hear the sound of heavens

I see new opportunities coming

I want to go deeper

I am passionate and friendly

I pretend all till I make it

I feel expectant about the future

I touch the untouchable

I worry about too many things

I cry for broken relationships

I am passionate and friendly

I understand nothing at all

I say God is good, all the time

I dream about transformation

I try to step outside my comfort zone

I hope to make my dent in the universe

I am passionate and friendly

Yearning

Yearning to be significant
Yearning to make a difference
Yearning for love and belonging
Yearning for courage to sing the right song
Yearning to chart the unknown
Yearning for what can’t be seen
Yearning for the supernatural
Yearning for heaven on Earth
Yearning for eternity which we’re born for
Yearning which keeps me moving on
Until I finally arrive home

Adam

My Summer

Finally almost here, just can’t wait

The period of being free from tedious studying

Countless hours of working and sleepless nights

Finally flying away to get to know a new country

Ancient Scotland to discover, what a thrill

Maybe hiking in the Alps or navigating a river

Camping and watching the stars

Enjoying the time of rest when time slows down

Being with friends as much as possible

Even though it’s just for a short while, it’s so needed
